2007 Wildcats Clean Up!

The Davis Hoops twelve and under (12U) boys basketball team participated on April 21 in the Davis Downtown Clean-up Day event sponsored by the Davis Downtown Business Association and the City of Davis Parks and Community Services Department. The boys wore protective gloves and combed the streets of downtown Davis picking up trash and recyclables. The biggest surprise was how many cigarette butts were found on the sidewalk, mainly in planters near street intersections and trees. One team of three kids found 767 cigarette butts in about three square city blocks. The Davis residents routinely talked with the kids and thanked them for their hard work throughout the 2-hour clean-up session and the City representative said that never before had they recovered as much recycling material as did our team. The kids felt very good about working together and providing this community service. And, due to their hard work and teamwork, downtown Davis is now a lot cleaner.
