The Boys 10u team competed in a tournament at the Hardwood Palace in Rocklin on January 23, taking the second of their three games.
The first game was a tightly contested battle between the Wildcats and the Rocktown Ballers. Falling to Rocktown 45-43, the Wildcats were led by Yiorgos Callaway with 13 points and Garrett Thomson with 9. Neil Welch and Jake Taylor each had 6 points, Bo Van Court and Zach Bergevin contributed 4 apiece, and Scott Soderquist added a free throw.
In the second game, the Wildcats' squad soundly defeated the Reno Ballers 44-6. Pacing the potent Wildcats attack were Callaway and Tommy Aquino, who combined for 16 points. Also contributing to the balanced scoring were Thomson and Evan Moddelmog, with 6 points apiece, Joe Morrison with 4, and Chase Furman, Nate Soeth, Jamie Moddelmog, Bergevin, and Welch, who together added another 10 points. The opponents' total of 6 points was the lowest point total allowed by the Wildcats' defense this season.
In the championship game, the Delta Running Rebels from Stockton used a second half spurt to defeat the Wildcats, 33-26. Welch and Jamie Moddelmog led the offense for the Wildcats with 6 points apiece, Gavin Schouten and Bergevin combined for 8, and Aquino, Soeth, and Thomson each added 2 points.
Next up for the 10u boys Wildcats is a tournament at Harper Junior High in Davis on January 30.

10U Team Beats Hurricanes at Sac Area Sports Tournament

Competing in the Sac Area Sports tournament at Foothill High School in Orangevale on January 9, the 10u team took one out of three games. In the first game, the Wildcats erased a sizeable halftime deficit to defeat the Hurricanes White team 23-17, behind 8 points from Jacob Taylor. Yiorgos Callaway and Gavin Schouten combined for another 8, while Nathan Soeth and Neil Welch each contributed a bucket.
Fighting hard against an experienced Yellowjackets team, the Wildcats dropped the second game 52-23. Evan Moddelmog led a balanced attack for the Wildcats with 5 points, Chase Furman and Jamie Moddelmog combined for 7 points, and Schouten, Taylor, Tommy Aquino, Scott Soderquist, and Bo Van Court each scored 2.
In a highly physical third game that included numerous trips to the free-throw line by both teams, the Wildcats fell to a tough Hurricanes Orange squad, 34-13. Battling an aggressive defense, Callaway had 7 points for the Wildcats, while Aquino and Joseph Morrison each contributed 3.

10U Team Hosts Holiday Tourny

Hosting the Davis Hoops 10 and under Boys Holiday Classic at Harper Junior High School on Saturday, December 19, the Wildcats faced stiff competition from Folsom and Lodi.
The Davis Red squad beat the Folsom Force, 33-28, in the first game behind 15 points from Yiorgos Callaway. Zach Bergevin and Scott Soderquist each chipped in six points, while Garrett Thomson and Nate Soeth combined for another six.
Davis Black played in the next two games with brothers Evan and Jamie Moddelmog combining for all 12 points in a 42-12 loss to the Lodi Flying Tigers. Trying to bounce back against Folsom, Davis Black lost 40-31 even with Tommy Aquino's nine points and six points each from Neil Welch and the two Moddelmogs. Jake Taylor and Soderquist each contributed two points, while Chase Furman and Joe Morrison provided strong defense and rebounding.
In the tournament championship game, Davis Red fell to Lodi, 50-20, despite 12 points from Callaway and six from Soderquist. Bergevin had two points, and the team benefited from steals by Bo Van Court and rebounding from Gavin Schouten.


Boys 10U Team Hits The Hardwood Palace

The 10U team, took second place at the Xtreme Hoops Holiday Classic at the Hardwood Palace in Rocklin on Saturday, winning two of three games.
The Wildcats beat the Rocktown Ballers White, 34-15, in the first game, led by Yiorgos Callaway and Evan Moddelmog, who both had nine points. Jake Taylor added six points, while Garrett Thomson contributed four in the team's first game of the season.
After losing the second game to Xtreme Hoops, 36-11, the Wildcats bounced back against the tough Rocktown Ballers Blue, 31-17, led by Callaway with 10 points and Taylor with six points.
The team also benefited from strong play from Scott Soderquist, who had key steals down the stretch and Nate Soeth, who scored six points on the day and grabbed 10 boards. Tommy Aquino, Bo Van Court and Chase Furman handled the pressure and worked the ball down court with strong ball handling and passing.
Zach Bergevin, Jamie Moddelmog, and Neil Welch had many steals and rebounds while playing outstanding defense.
