qualifiers!
The 13U team took first place in the California State Games Qualifier tournament on April 12 and 13th in Folsom winning all three of their games.
In the championship game against a physical Team California, the Wildcats fell behind during the first quarter but clawed their way back to within one by halftime. The Wildcats continued to work hard throughout the third quarter taking a six point lead midway in the final period. Team California had some key defensive stops, but it wasn't enough against the determined Wildcat team. The final score for the contest was 40-38. Hayden Russell led all scores in the game with 15. Hayden Duer added eight, Ben Beukelman had six, Kevin Sorensen had five, and Grant Dickerson had four. Rebound leaders for the Wildcats were Russell and Sorensen with six each.
In Saturday's games, the Wildcats easily handled Del Oro (61-25) and Team Hoop/Mana (63-22).
For the tournament, the Wildcats were paced by Beukelman with 31 points and eight rebounds, Russell with 27 points and 16 rebounds, Sorensen with 23 points and 21 rebounds, Jake Moraes with 22 points and 16 rebounds and Duer with 21 points and 13 rebounds.
In winning this tournament the Wildcats secured an invitation to compete at the California State Games to be held in San Diego this summer.

"B" Team's Championship Bid Falls Short, Wildcats place 2nd
The "B" team won two of their three games to take second place in the Chico Springtime Showcase tournament April 5 and 6th. The Wildcats were unsuccessful in their bid to take the championship when they ran into a tough Sutter County Laser team. The Wildcats fell behind early, but staged a strong comeback. However, they were unable to maintain their effort, losing to the Lasers 35-48. Collin Holtz had a strong defensive and offensive effort pacing the Wildcats with 11 points and seven steals.
In their first game on Saturday, the Wildcats breezed by the Cloverdale Eagles 49-19. Their stellar man to man defense held the Eagles to two points in the first quarter. Leading scorers for the game were Holtz, Jordan Shickman, and William McPhearson with eight points each. Cameron Cuvelier and Tommy Slabaugh each had seven points. James Kilkenny had six. Robert Daugherty led the Wildcats with eight rebounds.
In their second game on Saturday, a needed win to reach the finals, the Wildcats outplayed the Chico Tarheels 43-23. While never trailing in the game, the contest was close until the Wildcats began to stretch their lead in the fourth quarter holding the Tarheel to just two points. Nick Denton led with 14 points. Slabaugh contributed nine and Jason Whitfield and Holtz both added six. Isaiah Wease had four points and Cuvelier and Daugherty each had two. Grabbing rebounds for the Wildcats were Whitfield with seven, Denton with six and Wease with five.

13U "A" Team Hoopsters Take Trophy

The 13U "A"
team improved their overall record to 11-4, winning all three games that they played on March 29th and 30th to take first place in the Sac Area Sports tournament.
In their opening game on Saturday, the Wildcats bested YBA Blue of Rocklin 54-51 in a tightly contested match that was resolved in overtime. The Wildcats were led by bigman Kevin Sorensen who had 21 points. Grant Dickerson and Hayden Russell both contributed 10 points. Dickerson led rebounders with nine. Sorensen and Phil Glazer both grabbed seven. Zack Aukes added six points and made two assists for the game. Jake Moraes had five points.
The second game on Saturday was played against the Humbolt Lumberjacks. The Wildcats struggled early on, but outplayed the Lumberjacks in the second half to finish the game with a 63-34 win. Isaiah Kelley led scorers with 13 points. Adding to the score for the Wildcats were Dickerson (11), Sorensen (10), Russell (8), Glazer (7), Moraes (6), Ben Beukelman (4), Aukes (2), and Kris Williams (2). Leading rebounders for the contest were Dickerson and Glazer with 10 each and Russell with seven.
On Sunday, for the championship, the Wildcats defeated the Folsom Flash 43-28. The Wildcat defense was intense holding the Flash scoreless in the second quarter. Scoring was distributed among the team, with all the Wildcats putting up points. Jakob Moraes led all scorers with 10. Russell added six and Aukes added five. Sorensen, Glazer and Kelley each had four. Beukelman (3), Dickerson (2), Michael Beltzer (2), Williams (2), and Jason Whitfield (1) each contributed. Dickerson led rebounders with 10. Sorensen had nine and Kelley had seven.

Wildcats Fight On!

Davis Hoops Wildcats Boys 13U AAU Basketball team placed a hard fought second in a Sacramento Area Sports tournament held on March 1 and 2nd. In their opening game, the Wildcats beat the Folsom Flash (31-20) after a tough defensive battle on both ends of the court. High scorer for the game was Hayden Russell with 13 points. Grant Dickerson lead all rebounders grabbing 5, Russell added 4 more. Zack Aukes had two assists.
The second game of the day placed the Wildcats against YBA White, a worthy opponent to whom they had previously lost. The lead see-sawed during the first two quarters, with the Wildcats pulling away in the third when they held YBA White scoreless. The final score of the contest was 50-38. Russell lead all scorers for the game with 17 points. Russell was 3 for 3 with his three point shooting. He also contributed 6 rebounds. The Wildcats also got scoring and rebounding from Dickerson with 10 points and 4 rebounds, Kevin Sorensen with 8 points and 3 rebounds, and Hayden Duer with 3 points and 6 rebounds. Jake Moraes had 5 points.
After two wins, Sunday's play was for the championship. The Wildcats faced the Red Raiders of Sacramento. After a tremendous third period come back where the Wildcats held the Raiders to only two points in the period, the Wildcats could not hang on logging a defeat (34-43). Conor Brehm was high scorer with 8 points. Brehm was 2 of 2 for three point shooting. Also contributing to the Wildcats scoring in this contest were Sorensen (6), Aukes and Dickerson (5 points each), Duer and Kris Williams (3 points each), and Russell and Ben Beukelman (2 points each).
