Four Davis Hoops Wildcats teams traveled to Reno to participate in the Jam on It Memorial Day Tournament, the largest AAU tournament in the nation.

The 14U Davis Hoops Wildcats White Team took first place in their division. In the first round Davis faced the Sacramento "KnightMares" and cruised to a 61-19 win. The "Cats" were paced by John Botro with 13 points and 12 rebounds, Niko Doyle with 12 points and 7 assists, Forrest Paxton with 8 points and Jason Stinson with 7 points and 3 steals.

Later that same day the White squad beat the Reno "Jam-on-it" squad 52-36. The team was led by Arnell Rusanganwa with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Ben Corfee added 7 points and 5 rebounds to cap off the victory. With the win the "Cats" moved into the semi-final round with a 2-0 record for the day.

In semi-final action Davis faced the #1 seeded "Soldiers" out of Oakland, California. In one of the most exciting games of the year the boys came away with a 40-37 win. Down 9 with just over 3 minutes left the Wildcats went on a 14-2 run to finish off the come-from-behind win. In the victory the Wildcats were lead by Niko Doyle and John Botro each contributing 12 points. Ben Corfee chipped in 8 after sitting most the second half in foul trouble. Coach Sousa credited the entire team for the win but pointed out the defense of Bryan Hensley, Ennis Sandle and Jason Stinson for "shutting down" the Soldiers top two guards the entire second half.

In the finals the boys beat the Lake County Warriors 47-31. Leading scorer was Ben Corfee with 11 points. Bryan Hensley and John Botro added 7 each, Ennis Sandle chipped in 5 and Forrest Paxton added 4. With the victory the Wildcats ended the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record and first place medals around their necks.

Taking 2nd place in their division, the Boys 14u Davis Black team, first played the Hustlin' T'Wolves from Fresno, prevailing 45-33. Leading by only 2 at the half, the Wildcats outscored the T'Wolves 25-15 to pull away in the 2nd half. Leading the way were Matthias Wilken with 11 points and 3 rebounds, and Patrick Barrientes with 10 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Zach Powers had a solid game off the bench with 2 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists to go with a strong defensive effort.

The Wildcats moved on to face the Chico Tar heels in the second round. Jumping out to a 15-2 lead with a smothering defensive effort, Davis cruised to a 53-28 win. Tim Mohr had a double-double, finishing with 16 points and 13 rebounds. The Cats got major contributions from Tyler Sousa (8 points, 4 rebounds), Logan Condon (6 points, 5 rebounds), and an impressive all-around-game from point guard Ilanko Nataraajan, chipping in with 5 assists.

Davis next played the Middletown Knights in the semi-finals. After a see-saw 1st half that resulted in a 3 point lead, the Wildcats blew the game open midway through the 2nd half, cruising to a 55-38 victory. Skyler Geerts had a huge game, dominating the boards with 8 rebounds as well as scoring 9 points against Middletown's big front line. Patrick Barrientes finished with 12 points, including 8 for 10 from the free throw line, Tim Mohr just missed his second double-double with 10 points and 8 rebounds, and Ilanko Nataraajan hit two 3 pointers to finish with 6 points.

In the Championship game, the Wildcats faced the Hilltoppers , a tall and very talented team from San Jose. Davis had a tough time breaking the press, and trailed 19-10 at halftime. The Wildcats then came out on fire, and cut the lead to 4 behind a ferocious full court defense and Tyler Sousa's 13 points in the in the 2nd half. However, the Hilltoppers regrouped, made 80% of their free throw down the stretch, and pulled away at the end for a 45-32 win.

"Overall, we played very well against some really good competition. Our effort and execution was outstanding,"was how Coach Sousa summarized the weekend.
